Through the understanding and experience, you have developed in the previous projects you will complete a full speculative design project for a classic play ‘Hamlet’ by William Shakespeare. You will design for the Nottingham Playhouse main stage; the set, costumes, and properties, including a set of technical drawings and a storyboard. You will interrogate the text and learn about the historical and relevant themes in Shakespeare’s work to inspire and inform your research process. You will work with a professional Director and Lighting Designer, to look at the principles and application of using Lighting and simple AV effects in live theatre work to create effective transitions and character costume schemes onstage.

For Hamlet, I wanted to modernize the play in today's society either keeping it to the royal family or changing it to another hierarchy system that can be found such as refugee camps, prisons, etc. I explored these ideas and settled on modernizing them to meet today's royal family who are still very traditional in their morals and the way they dress, I wanted to create a contrast between the costumes and the set. I also wanted to focus on hierarchy and what it's associated with such as metals and colors.
